Um…honey…ALL the proteins ARE tested for…..what is different is WHICH proteins and how many are used to evaluate the tests.
A person that is + on one of the CDC criteria can take that test to a lab that uses the FDA criteria and be to neg…because the evaulation criteria are DIFFERENT.

Different kits have different HIV antigens, that is all. The tests are not designed to detect all HIV proteins. This is where you have got yourself confused. You think a search is made for ALL the proteins. This is where you have gone wrong.

The HIV Western blot is not standardised and thus around the world different combinations of bands are considered positive. Hence a positive test in one country is not positive in another. An African would not be positive in Australia. A person from the MACS would not be positive anywhere in the world including Africa.
