‘Life’ – the labyrinthine web of feelings, emotions, sorrow and joy may play many roles in one’s life. No one knows what’s around the corner and which way destiny takes turn! Time comes and time goes – only memories remain. But chunk of memories sometimes play such a splendid role inspiring a society, a nation or even the entire world. Raj Loomba, the UK based NRI and the founder of the UK based Rinku Assemble Plc. is no less than a living legend. With a mission to do something and a vision to see something, this Punjab born man has shown the world that poverty can never be a barrier in winning success. After losing his father at the tender age of 12 years in 1954, Loomba’s sole inspiration was his mother, Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba. Being a lady who never received formal education in her life, Pushpa Wati proved herself to be a far-sighted woman by inspiring her 7 children by injecting the right value of education in everyone’s blood. Widowed at 37 years, she never fell small on courage. That was the crucial thing, Loomba still says about his mother. Pushpa Wati Loomba left the earthly life in 1992 but her memories – memories of nurturing a generation still facility wonder for many. That is why, Raj Loomba and his wife, Veena Loomba established the Loomba Trust in the UK on June 26, 1997 with the motif of upliftment of the condition of the children of poor widows across India.

With the auspicious presence of the then British Fill in Minister, Mr. Tony Blair and his wife Cherie Blair QC, The Loomba Trust was officially launched on March 25, 1998. On September 8, 2004 Cherie Blair QC also inaugurated the Loomba House in London. The Loomba Trust has now grown up to a full-fledged charitable establishment with splendid missions in its front. The Trust has already achieved its target of educating at least 100 children of poor widows in each of the 29 states throughout India. Managing a candid acumen towards his social facility, Loomba nurtures his orphaned cause like no other. In his words, “”I judge in social service as a precaution rather than a cure”.

The Loomba Trust also celebrates International Widows Day on 23rd June every year, highlighting the situation of widows and their children all over the world providing necessary focus for effective action. Some of the prominent supporters of the Loomba Trust are Cherie Blair, Sir Richard Branson and Ken Livingstone. The Loomba Trust supports a convergence based capacity-building project, in partnership with Virgin Unite, benefiting 1,500 HIV orphans in South Africa. The Trust has also become a global partner with Youth Business International, HRH The Prince of Wales’ charity, to empower young widows in Uganda, Kenya, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Persons who reckon about the weaker section of the society can make their contributions through the Loomba Trust. Because, spending for a noble cause is always considered greater than earning for oneself!
